Sergio Gómez

He holds a Master's degree in Hispano-American Literature from the University of Concepcion (Chile). He has worked as an editor and screenwriter for television. He has also worked as an editor and journalist for El Mercurio newspaper's supplements "Zona de Contactos"--of which he was one of the founders, "Wiken" and "Dominical". He later helped to found Diario Siete in Santiago (Chile).

In 1997 he received a scholarship to attend the International Writers Program at the University of Iowa (USA).

He has received numerous prizes related to literature for adults and for literature for children and young people.

He has won the Barco de Vapor Prize for Children’s and Young People’s Literature awarded by SM publishing company twice: for El canario Polaco, (The Polish Canary) in 2008; and for Los increíbles poderes del señor Tanaka,(The Incredible Powers of Mr. Tanaka) in 2010.

He was a finalist for the Jorge Herralde Prize for the Novel Patagonia (2003), finalist for the Rómulo Gallegos Prize for Spanish and Latin American Literature for Vidas Ejemplares (Exemplary Lives) (1996), and finalist for the Planeta of Argentina Prize for the Novel for El labio inferior (Lower Lip) (1997).
