The Booksellers Association of Spain (CEGAL) has announced its books of the year awards. The Award to the Best Children’s Book published in Spain in 2022, awarded by Spanish booksellers and voted and decided by the Grupo Kirico (the specialised children’s bookshops members of CEGAL), has gone to Un par de ojos nuevos, (A New Pair of Eyes), by Ellen Duthie, Javier Sáez Castán and Manuel Marsol.

“The jury has referred to the book as a ‘masterpiece’, due to the weaving together of text and illustration, literature and philosophy, dream and reality and nonsense, in a stunning homage to classic authors such as Sendak. They have particularly valued the way it treats children as intelligent beings and the fact that it is a complex read that doesn’t resolve itself after one reading, but rather goes acquiring layers of meaning and sense with every new read.”
