A sensitive story that touches on the difficulties faced by generations in times when governments change the rules and marginalize many.
One rainy afternoon, Juan and Anarina took shelter under some metal sheets, standing very close together. In that moment, he felt the warm air coming from her mouth. That’s how they met, in Villa Cartón, a place that has existed since the beginning of time, where survival is at times complicated and at others more than difficult. He had come from the north; she, from the city. Each with their own story, dreams, and songs. Years and governments passed, until one day they decided to leave together in search of another sky.
This story tells us about a harsh social reality: migrating from the countryside to the city, migrating from one country to another, always in hopes of a better life.
As it usually happens with quality literary Works, El país de Juan is not for kids or for adults, or better said, it is both the first and the latter. Karina Micheletto, Página 12
Il paese di Juan (…) is an example of how stories for young people, those that speak to younger readers, can be literary. La stampa, Italy
The sensitivity and poetry with which María Teresa Andruetto tells this story is perfect. Daniela Azulay, Infobae
