The story begins in Africa when Imaoma and Átima, two young people, get married, and the woman receives a gift from her husband that he made himself: a mirror framed in ebony.
The couple has a daughter, but unfortunately fate has the worst in store for them: the little girl is kidnapped and taken to the Río de la Plata to be sold as a slave. But her mother’s mirror travels with her.
This is the beginning of a story that, through the thread of the mirror, brings together different people, eras, and three continents: Africa, America, and Europe.
Bodoc shows us the arduous struggles that so many men and women faced to obtain freedom. A story that began two centuries ago, but is not yet over.
